Free Domain Registration

That's right. I said free domain registration. To celebrate the launch of TheIdeaWeb's new domain registration services ( www.registeridea.com ) we're offering a great combination offer that gets you a free ride on your registration fees, for a long as you're a customer.

The deal is this:

Sign up for HostIdea Web Hosting before June 30th, 2003 and you'll get free domain registration and renewals. For as long as you maintain your HostIdea account, we'll pay your domain fees.

If you already have a domain name, you can transfer it to RegisterIdea (free of charge) and take advantage of the same offer. We'll pay your renewal fees for as long as you have a paid HostIdea account.

This offer is only available for the "Standard" and "Premium" webhosting plans, and cannot be combined with any other offer, coupon, or web hosting special.

To take advantage of this offer, sign up for webhosting and mention code 'FREEDOMAIN' in the notes section.
If you have any questions at all about this free domain registration offer, just reply to this thread - I'd be happy to answer them!

Free domain names? Hrmm... Let me be devil's advocate here.

NameZero used to offer something like this, but didn't they register the name with themselves as the owner so the customer had to stay with their hosting services? And didn't they put one of their ads on every site to try to earn money to offset the cost? Do you have anything like that planned?

If not the owner field, would we have to change the Billing contact field to you instead of us?

I also assume you mean you'll pay for the renewal of standard .com, .net and .org names and not necessarily any others. I hear some .tv names cost tens of thousands of dollars a year to renew (not worth it in my mind). Do you have a list of accepted domain name extensions?

What about those of us with multiple domain names pointing to the same website? I don't expect that they are all free, but it doesn't hurt to ask...

Good questions, Dan.

Yep, NameZero did something similar a few years ago - in fact it was their core strategy. This is a much different offer.

All domains will be fully registered in the customer's name - TheIdeaWeb won't be listed as any contact. Customers will be able to update whois information freely - just as if they paid to have the domain registered.

No ads will be involved. For that matter, we don't use ads at all in any of HostIdea or RegisterIdea's services, free domain or not. Even on the default 'parking page' that is shown when someone first registers a domain (but doesn't have a website), no ads will appear - some registrars fill this page with ads, popups, and other nonsense. Check out the RegisterIdea website for more info on this.

The free domain offer is only valid on .com/net/org/info/biz/us domain names. RegisterIdea & HostIdea both offer services for other TLD's - but they aren't part of this deal.

As far as multiple domains, heh. We'd certainly host them - but the free registration bit is a 1 per paid hosting-account thing. Additional domains can be registered for $10 / year.

Hope this helps! Thanks for the questions!

Thanks for answering my questions. It all looks pretty risk free to me.

Yes absolutely. As it stands now, it's valid until 6/30 - though it may be extended beyond that.

I'm please to announce that this offer has been made a permanent part of our web hosting services, valid on any account other than our "Starter" account!
