My beloved Sony MZ-R55 has just died after less than 3 years service. It will not read any minidiscs let alone play or record them - the disc simply spins ad infinitum. Someone mentioned that the laser might be weakening. If this is so (I thought that semiconductor lasers were pretty reliable) is it worth repairing it or should I just buy another one? (Any recommendations...?)
Has this happened to anyone else? |

I dont know much about Mini Disk recorders, but Ive done a bit of research, and these sites may help you out.
Amazon.com - Has great reviews, though you do not have to buy off this site, I would definitely check out the reviews Overstock.com - Seems to have great prices on Mini Disk recorders, but you may want to shop around. Epinions.com - Has great reviews on EVERYTHING, and can compare prices from a lot of stores! MySimon.com - Another great store for comparing prices. Though I dont have a lot of specific information, I hope the above links help a bit. |

Stu,
My Sony MZ-R55 is less than 3 years old and has the same problems as those you described: It will not read any minidiscs let alone play or record them - the disc simply spins ad infinitum. Is this just a coincidence or is it an indication of manufacturing flaws? Another problem that developed about a year ago is that I can no longer use the AC adaptor to charge the battery. |
