Last night I saw a program on Tammy Faye , which was telling us how she is getting thru cancer treatments. I was so happy to see her on tv after years of not knowing what had happened to her. altho I'm so sad to hear that she has been sick. I pray that God will bring her thru this again and she will be cancer free. I once was at Heritage USA when she and Jim were airing the PTL show and I walked up on stage and told her how pretty she was. And she said Oh thank U honey. She had just finished singing a beautiful song. The security guards weren't going to let me get close to her, but I said Tammy and she turned around and walked over to me. It was a great time for us there. And we returned one christmas and it was truely amazing with all they had for christains to enjoy them selves. and the millions of lights, I've never seen anything like that before or since that time. I would love to see Heritage come back into christian hands and be restored to its former glory. Does anyone have any idea of how I can contact Tammy Faye. I would love to e-mail her or send her a card. Thanks
Terry in Georgia

Smile Concerned...

Lady Star, I have really become very concerned about your health and well-being as of late because I have seen very little new activity on either one of the TIW Groups for a long time!... David's post on the
other TIW Group being the latest info on that group. I certainly hope that you have not become overwhelmed by too many poke-berry juice cocktails along with chicken 'n dumpling stew, since there could be an allergic reaction to certain people if they are eaten and imbibed together, and/or to excess...ya know, sorta like the various interactions and deleterious effects between certain prescription drugs, etc.

I suspect, however, that most of our former members on these groups have flown the coop (so to speak) and moved to the more viable and interesting "former" Heritage/PTL-Groups where there has most certainly been a flurry of interest, LOTS of new members and dozens of new info posts, and pics concerning the current construction and/or destruction goings-on there.

But then again, I could be totally incorrect in my intuitive observations
of course, and will shamefully be forced to admit that I have indeed been wrong about something(s) at least twice in my lifetime. :-(

At any rate, please do surface yourself once again so that everyone (or is it just ONE now on these groups) will be assured that y'all are Ok, and do go over and check out the new groups because they are extremely interesting, and I might add, very "truthful" and informative!!

My, best regards to y'all and God's blessings...

Kermit

Katrina

May we all remember to pray for the victims of Katrina. Our own Don Hardister is in Louisiana assisting with the flow of medical supplies. We have already heard of his determination and bravery back here in Charlotte, NC. Those folks are working in almost impossible conditions. Keep lifting'em up!

Katrina

Couple of websites of interest. http://www.missingkatrina.com/ http://www.safekatrina.com/

Don't forget to pray for the former PTL staff members who are working in Louisiana. I also heard today that Pastor Dearborn from PTL is ill and in need of prayer.

More brave soles from Rock Hill, York County, SC

Moved to action
By Toya Graham The Herald

(Published September 5‚ 2005)

Madison "Sonny" Byrd couldn't ignore Hurricane Katrina's crying babies.
The Rock Hill native couldn't look past the sea of people who made their way through flood waters in search of family, food and water. Nor could he forget the victims trapped at the convention center in New Orleans.

"There were 25,000 people in the convention center," said Byrd, 18, a Duke University sophomore and former Northwestern High School student. "They were living like animals, and they were trapped."

The more he watched the continuous news clips, the madder he got. So did his college roommate, Hans Buder, 19.

"'Nothing's being done,'" Byrd recalled Buder saying on Thursday afternoon. "He just looked at me and said, 'We have to go.'"

Byrd, Buder and friend David Hankla left Durham, N.C., bound for New Orleans. More had to be done to save Katrina's victims.

Byrd topped off his gas tank and loaded his four-seater Hyundai Elantra with 12 cases of bottled water.

"We didn't know where we could go," Byrd said. "We grabbed a map and headed toward Mobile, Ala., and the New Orleans area."

The threesome left around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Nearly 12 hours later, they pulled into a Target parking lot in Montgomery, Ala. After a two-hour nap, the men piled more bottled water into the jammed car. They also purchased knives.

"All hell had broken loose in New Orleans," Byrd said. "We're not that big. A knife was our only security."

They then drove through Mississippi, including the hard-hit cities Biloxi and Gulfport.

"We weren't able to find anybody," said Byrd, who drove through Friday afternoon and ended up in Baton Rouge, La. While the city was in good shape, Byrd said, officials were bringing people from New Orleans to a makeshift hospital at Louisiana State University and shelters at local churches.

Growing anger

Byrd, Buder and Hankla gave all their water to a television crew and helped them distribute supplies to victims for nearly four hours. Later in the day, they went to the hospital and helped with mostly senior adult victims who had serious health problems.

"There were people who didn't know where any of their family members were," Byrd said. "There were people who were crying."

And the hopelessness angered Byrd.

"Not enough was being done for the people," he said.

Katrina's refugees had shelter in Baton Rouge. Byrd and his friends wanted to help those stranded in New Orleans who couldn't help themselves.

"We had tried to get into New Orleans the day before, but every way into the city was blocked by the National Guard and police officers," Byrd said. "The only people they were letting in were emergency vehicles and the press."

So the three came up with an idea. They would make fake press passes and a business card. Byrd borrowed a shirt from the news crew.

"Our stomachs were in knots," Byrd said. "We didn't think it would work, but we knew we had to try."

Then, their moment came.

"We held up our press passes, and they waved us through," Byrd said.

But he wasn't prepared for what he saw when he drove through New Orleans along Magazine Street. Massive amounts of debris and trash littered roads scattered with pools of water.

"The damage was unbelievable," he said. "The place looked like someone had dropped an atomic bomb in the middle of the city."

Byrd, who passed a teenager known only as Mario holding a sign asking for food and water, knew the worst was yet to come.

"We knew there were people still trapped," said Byrd, who drove on to the convention center, what he called "the heart of the disaster."

The group passed through a sea of armed guardsmen as they walked into the convention center.

"It looked like a bomb had gone off," Byrd said. "It was hell on Earth. There were dead bodies on the second and third floor. We couldn't believe people were trapped in there for five days with no food, no water and no assistance.

"Feces and urine was everywhere -- inside the building, in the carpet," he added. "It was unbearable."

They stayed in the building nearly 30 minutes, recording what they saw -- and committing it to memory.

"It was wrong for people to be left in there for those days," Byrd said. "It would have been easy to get those people out. Anybody could have gone in with cars and brought people out just like we did."

A disgusted Byrd drove to the community where Mario lived to find anyone to take to Baton Rouge. They found four -- a man, who had been trapped in a tree because he couldn't swim and had been attacked by fire ants, and three women.

The men took the unidentified man to the makeshift hospital in Baton Rouge. They then took the women out to dinner and left them with family.

No regrets for the trip

Early Sunday morning, the three college buddies went back to New Orleans. They carted out three more people, two of the women's husbands and one other man. Around 1 p.m. Sunday, Byrd and his friends watched the six head out on a bus to Dallas.

Byrd spent hundreds of dollars for gas and water, but he has no regrets.

"Money is not worth human life," Byrd said. "We had to go in there and save people no matter what the cost or the sacrifice.

On Sunday, the three were driving 17 hours back to Duke. They were scheduled to be interviewed by Fox News this morning and hoped to make it to class. But Byrd learned a lesson far more important than anything he'll ever learn in college.

"There's no amount of sacrifice that's more valuable than saving people who can't be saved otherwise."

Room For Hurricane Katrina Victims

Can anyone think of some hotel rooms which are currently un-used that may be available to house victims of Hurricane Katrina?

Hmmmm......anything come to mind?

Looks like MorningStar Ministries is considering this. I don't know how many of the rooms at the former Heritage Grand Hotel have been restored, nor what sort of certificate of occupancy that Heritage International Ministries currently has from York County, SC, but lets all keep this idea forefront in our prayers!!!

Rooms at the Inn

There are 91 rooms completely restored. The first group of evacuees for South Carolina are scheduled to hit the ground in Columbia tomorrow. So, we will know in a few days if any of them end up at HIM. The Unified Medical Command has been activated in SC. Hospitals thoughout the state are preparing to receive the first group of patients. It is my understanding that a lot of those evacuated in good shape are now getting sick. Those that were sick before are now really sick. Prayer for these folks and those working in that area is urgent!

Hurricane Evacuees

I know that there isn't a lot of information here in this area yet either as to when evacuees will be arriving at area hospitals.

So H.I.M. would take in refugees and house them at the former Heritage Grand if they come?

Patients

The patients are currently being triaged as we speak. Depending on how far they can travel will determine how many will come to SC. I'm not sure how they are determining how many actual evacuees they will ship to SC. The shelters have already been determined as per the emergency management plans that were just rewritten this year. Hardister was part of that rewrite for SC but we are unable to contact him at this point to see what he knows. He is part of the unified medical command and several others from this area are on the dmort team. I would certainly think this will overhelm anything written. So, I think there is a good chance that HIM may be asked to step up to the plate and serve in some manner. Wouldn't that be a great way to get the tower finished! I found this article and thought it was very interesting. Read at your own risk. http://spaces.msn.com/members/expressionmsncom/Blog/cns!1pVX5klj2Wd3DlCn-CMY5ynA!286.entry
