sadly there is no way unless the person who has added u to his/her list IM's u.

u can try going to buddylist preferences to block someone.

One small bit of help

This probably doesn't help you too much but if you know someone's screen name and you want to know if you are on their buddy list, when they put up an away message, IM them and if you get an auto-response, it means you are on their list (I have seen this work only on AIM, it may not be the same on AOL... )

If only someone could invent a program that scans everyone's buddy list that is saved on AOL's servers and tells you where your screen name appears. Personally I think it wouldn't work and if it did, AOL would realize very quickly that someone is scanning their files and shut you down.

AOL buddy lists

There is no quick way to tell if you are on someone's AOL buddy list. It would be nice if AOL had some mechanism to allow your permission before someone adds your screenname to a buddy list, like Yahoo Messenger does. All you can do on AOL is block the screennames that you don't want your online status to be revealed to (which means nothing of you have an AOL profile which always tells your status in the Member Directory search). This doesn't help much, but hey, that's AOL = the most expensive yet limited ISP service on earth.

How about you take it down a notch. There is no site where you can view all the buddy lists you are on. How do you think they would get that information? I think it's safe to say it would be a invasion of privacy. Before you go insulting people, I want to see proof. Until then, you're point is invalid.

you can use IM choas to see who has checked your profile. All you do is make up a link, if they click on it, it records their name. The only thing is that they must click on the link for you to catch them reading your profile. Just go to IM chaos and click on the 'simple list' link. this should show you how to set it up in your profile.

Well umm for the program that would tell you who's bud list your on... would be an invasion of privacy? Because it is there business who is on there list and not yours, i think your talking about MSN with the website there, for i know that you can see if your on there list, and if they are blocking you and stuff like that.... but i doubth there is such a thing for AIM

See If you're on someones buddy list

There IS a quick way to tell, but it doesn't work for everysingle user. You see, when someone with a screename (from AIM) goes to preferences, they can choose whether to have a window pop up and tell them when someone from not on their buddy list is IMIng them. SO, if you IM someone while their away message is up, and the away message pops up, then chances are you're most likely on their buddy list. However, if you're not, then when you IM them, THEY will get the window that pops up, and you cant see the away message until they click OK in that window. So if when you IM them, and their away message doesn't pop up, you are NOT on their buddy list. hope this helps!

Question

Everyone is so worried about an invasion of privacy --- I don't really understand wanting to add yourself to a buddy list without them knowing but I know it happens all the time. I'd rather be able to tell who's list I'm on in these cases - so I could remove myself from them if I chose to.

it would be an incasion of privacy because you could see if your on it but you could also see everyone else thats on it and probably other things...its like if you were to log onto someones email and see whos in there address book then you could do other things to...it jsut not good
