restore main.idx
If you are serios about fixing your main.idx file (postings on forum is a mess!), do the following:
-close AOL - first delete %/AOL <your version>.0/compver.bin file. However, I suggest you RENAME it to smthng like <~compver.bin> - MOVE your main.idx file from %/AOL/backup subdirectory to %/AOL/ibd subdir. Windows will warn you that this file already exists, bla-bla, click "YES". -restart AOL If you are happy what you see, you can continue as usual. If your %/AOL/backup file is also corrupt, you can only do a file recovery procedure with the help of special s/w Details to follow if needed. Reinstalling AOL might help as well, by the way. |

Main IDX file damage with twist
I have gotten the IDX file damage error message several times, but only when windows xp is sighned on as limited user acount, administrator workes fine. I have tried suggested repair several time, with no luck. The issue is a little more cloudy due to te fact that its a new gateway I'm just setting up, and I moved my wifes acount to my 6 mo. free AOL included. That worked for admin only. Is this an AOL problem or an XP setup error?

how do I fix my main.idx file and try and download an updated software
I recently signed on with another internet provider but I wanted to still have access to my aol account. When I go to click on the aol icon on my desktop....it gives the message about my main.idx file is damaged. And also I may possibly have to re-download aol. What do I do? Let me inform you that i'm not very computer literate so be elementary in the steps for me restoration. Thank You.

You can do this at MY COMPUTER. Open it up (On the desktop). Go to the C Drive, and open the following folders as stated above in the post. Hopefully that helps, let me know if you need any additional assistance, I can be more specific if you need. |

main.idx damaged
JusDez
Works awesome, I also copied the "organize" folder which carries all screen names & links. Works perfect as though it was brand new install. ( No lets see if I can remember this in 6 months when it happens again.) |

Lsandefur, Instead of asking the same question that has been asked many times here at TIW, try using the SEARCH feature. It has been answered many times before. It's even been answered earlier in this thread, just take the time to read through it. Hope that helps. |
