go to c:/program files/america online/backup and the copy the Main.idx file and paste it in c:/program files/america online/idb folder to overwrite the previous one.

damaged Main.idx file

I am unable to access aol 8.0. I am getting messages that the Main.idx file is damaged. I have also received a message that I need to re-install ICQ core.dll. Please advise what I should do.

It would be a lot easier to get in contact with people by registering for the forums. Besides being spam-free, a one-page form, and also allowing you to get a free email account, you will have a private message / Instant Message feature. Otherwise members are unable to post others means by which you can contact them.

Hope that helps, and I hope you decide to register.

After contacting AOL myself it seems they suggest uninstalling and then reinstalling the software. I swear there was an easier way, maybe AMJones or one of the other gurus can pop in here.

Im thinking AOL just gave me the standard "Reinstall" procedure, Ive heard the same thing for the most simple questions. Don't go uninstalling your software quite yet.
