my computer wont get off safe mode

im really stupid w/ computers and i cant get mine off of safe mode and its been like this for about a month
any help would be much appreciated

What version of Windowas are you using?

Anything in particular happen right before this, like.. did you install any new software, have a power outage, or anything like that?

its windows 98 and i didnt install anything before this happend, but i share this computer so i guess somebody else couldve done something but i dont think they did

as soon as you turn the computer on start pressing F8 until a screen comes up with different options. select Normal boot and it will boot to the normal win98 desktop.

Have you tried getting the main menu in the beginning?

my computer had shut off from a thunder storm and when i went 2 go turn it on it started running in safe mode

That's perfectly normal. If you shut the computer down, then start it back up again, does it start up in normal mode then?

It won't turn off Safe Mode, rather. Is that normal?

This typically happens when one of three things is going on:

There is file corruption (specifically the registry files) on the drive, whether due to a power outage, brownout, power issue, or (worst case) the drive is failing.
You have bad memory in your machine, repeatedly causing file corruption.
A limited number of viruses and spyware can cause this issue as well

There are, of course, many other things that could cause this - but those three are the most common. In all likelyhood, the PC will need service at some kind of repair facility.

You can also put in the windows 98 boot discs, when it asks you if you want to format your harddrive and install windows 98 or repair, select repair, it should fix the problem.

Hi everyone, We tried the f8 thing and it won't work. We get a bunch of stuff that looks like it says things are normal and then it stops on c:\windows_ What do we do from there?

same thing is happening to me, i have XP and we lost power for a quick second during a thunderstorm and now when i try to install software it says, The windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows is not correctly installed. But i installed a upgrade windows installer from Windows.com so that cant be the problem, i tried the F8 thing also and it did not work, anyone know how to take safemode off?
