Problem installing visioneer flatbed scanner

I am having a major problem . I have a visioneer 8920 flatbed scanner. Previously I plugged it in and it worked. I have a window HP.

I have upgraded my computer to window xp from 98. I went to the website and upgrade the driver to make the computer & printer compatible.

It didn't help. I have uninstalled & reinstalled 3 times. I have rebooted my computer 3 times as well.

I am going crazy what am I doing wrong?

I have the identical scanner. The software installs a one-touch program that needs to be configured, and I assume you've done that.

Has your computer found the scanner? It's USB, so it should fire up immediately.

Are you using any scanner software besides what you have with the scanner? I use PaperPort 8 - very nice program, although a bit old - and scan directly from there, rather than using the "one-touch" program itself.

Now, having said that, I have been using the scanner on a win98 computer. However, I tried it on an XP as well, and it is working fine. I loaded the software, plugged in the scanner, the computer found it, and the scanner is working. Ok, it isn't configured, but I infer that you haven't even gotten this far, correct?

What is the software you are loading? The one I have is "8920.exe." That appears to work on both 98 and XP.

Took me awhile to get back onto trying to hookup my scanner. I am using windows xp pro & 8920exe visioneer flatbed scanner. It did hook it up when I first got it but I was using winodws 98.

I went to the visioneer website and downloaded the correct driver. I clicked the appropriate windows along the way. It said to hook up the usb. I did & still nothing. I cannot get it to work. I get an error message. It is not configured. scanner not dedected.

I do not know what else to do. ????

Do you have any other USB devices that you can try in the same port to verify that the port itself works? That'd be the first thing to try.

If the port works, you could also try a different cable with the scanner...

Ok, I have done the install of the scanner. I have checked the usb cable. Well, I have not replaced it yet. I have only used this scanner once before. I had windows 98 now I have XP. I am using windows service pak 2.

I think my problem now is configuring the scanner. It looks like the printer is configured but I want to scan pictures/ documents to my hard drive. I want to be able to put them on a website.

I am seeing a new screen now when I try to do this. It is in the lower right hand bottom of the screen. It has a multiple choice of where to configure. I click on scan. another window pops up, It says to "no default is found, do you want to create a default" ok not exactly what it says but basically. I click to do so. click ok. but nothing changes. I reboot. nothing. So what am I doing wrong trying to configure the scanner?

Once I have downloaded the driver for the 8920 scanner. I disabled all programs that are running on startup plus firewall, virus scan & pop up blocker. I click on the link for the scanner and wait. When the finish sign appears, I plug in the usb cable.then I press finish when done I restart computer.

Ok now, I see a new toolbar appear when I click on the one touch icon at the bottom of the screen. I click on scan on the new toolbar. Another window appears, It says options. It says "no appropriate default was found. Would you like to change the default button class for this button?" I click on yes. Then one touch prefereces, "select destination, ( document centers)" , ok. nothing changes. Under select format & pages there are two boxes one says bitmap the other says paperport. ( I am befuddled)

It looks as if the copy/ print is configured. I can not change or delete this setting. I only need to scan documents or scan pictures so I can put them on a website.

I have clicked on the one touch configure button & the one touch monitor button. Nothing changes. Nothing opens

If someone out there is not as confused as I am please help me get this thing to work. It used to once upon a time. I used it a time or two ( had to move stuff around house) so I put it in the box till now.

Hey crittercrazy, I'm having exactly the same problem with my Visioneer Onetouch 9220 USB flatbed scanner. It worked on my other computer running windows 2000.. I bought a new computer running XP in Dec and now it doesn't work/or install correclty. I have been searching and found there are a lot of various problems if you have MicroSoft's service pack 2 installed. The Visioneer web site has a technical page that gives the phone numbers to call for help ... after I try uninstallling SP2 and then reinstallling my scanner I'll give them a try if it still doesn't work. I'll be watching to see if anyone else can assist us or has the same problems as us.

I have same scanner with XP. Excellent scanner, so don't toss.
Cannot advise as to problem, although sounds like a driver issue. If drivers installed, and USB connected, XP should be able to locate and set up the hardware.
Keep trying.

Ok all I want to do is scan a couple pictures to my computer. I'm running this on a Windows XP. It's connected and stuff. When I got the icons in the lower-right hand corner, I click on the Scan button and get this error thing that tells me to unlock the hardware when I have already done that. so I click ok and it doesn't do anything at all. It did this over and over like 10 times and the same thing kept happening. When we right-clicked the actual icon and clicked to connect to the scanner, when it was done, it disappered! The heck is wrong with this thing?!?!? Does anybody know what I can do?

P.s It doesn't shut off either. I've tried.
