Updating has destroyed my AIM
I received the "new version of AIM, update now" message last night...so I decided to upgrade.
Big mistake. Now I can't even sign on AIM...the second I tell it to sign on, I get an error message saying. "AOL Instant Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close, We are sorry for the inconvenience" The error info says this: AppName: aim.exe. AppVer: 5.9.3797.0 ModName:wininet.dll ModVer: 6.0.2900.2668 Offset: 0001b820 I found out that other people are experiencing this problem, via a Tech support forum I found through a Google search...unfortunately they didn't provide information on fixing the problem. They only suggested I downgrade...which I did...and it the same error still appears. I've tried restarting, reinstalling, downgrading, scanning, all kinds of stuff, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any ideas? |

Try removing AIM, removing it's folder from c:\Program Files... then installing an older verison of AIM. (www.oldversion.com).
This may not get you all the features, but in theory it should get you back online. ![]() |

Amen!
I've had this problem, too, and just found this thread. AIM wouldn't let me fully install several of the old versions from that site, but at the bottom of the real aim download page for the current version, there's a teeny, tiny link for the 4.8 version for windows 95 users--and it works! Thanks! |
