Screen Name Ideas

Perhaps I take screennames too seriously, but I've always thought that someone's screen name should be something personal and significant to them. As such, it seems very strange to me to post and ask a bunch of strangers that know nothing about you to think up a name for you.

We don't know you - but you do. Put a little effort into that which will be your "online persona".

I've posted some advice on screen name ideas below, please give it a read through, and afterwards give a shot at thinking up your OWN name.

How to "Think Up" Screennames

Your three best friends in thinking up a screenname are: your own brain, a thesaurus, and the internet. If you don't own a thesaurus, try thesaurus.com.

If I were forced with the difficult decision of trying to think up a new name for myself - I'd first do some brainstorming and write down everything that I was "in to" - everything I felt was part of me. Then I'd put them in kind of an order - of importance, or coolness, or what-have-you.

Of course, because there's 40-gadzillion other people with screennames, most of these words.. and combinations of them would be taken. No one said this was going to be easy, right?
Here's where that thesaurus and the internet come in. What you want to do is find out MORE about each of the things that you wrote down on your list. For example, let's say you like soccer. Instead of thinking of names with 'soccer' in them, do a few internet searches for soccer information. Look for important words that have to do with soccer.. and see if any of them sound good to you. (You can do a search right at www.theideaweb.com )

Do this for a few of the words on your list. Get about 5-10 alternatives for each word. The more unique sounding the word, the better.

If you can't find anything on your favorite subjects by searching.. or if doing it that way just takes too long, use the thesaurus. You should be able to easily find words associated with your favorite things.
Start trying to create screennames using combinations of the words you found in step two. Be inventive, and if necessary.. include a few numbers between the words (or at the end).

You should be able to find something that you like that isn't taken.
Now that you have a new screenname, keep it for a while. Part of the reason it's so hard to find a screenname that's not taken is people keep getting bored and making new ones. Sheesh.

haha did you read my post??? I hope you did. Now all you gotta do is delete EVERY post about Screen Names and we're set.

Nope, not going to delete a thing. That would result in lots of broken links in search engines, which I'd rather not have. Over time, they'll sink to the bottom of the pack, and won't be such a bother anymore.

It'd be appreciated if you'd stop posting in all of them "delete". By doing so, all you are doing is bringing them back up to the top.

well if they actually search for screen names idea then they deserve to have those errors/mistakes. that might teach them not to post anything about creating a SN. I apologize for bumping the posts but I did that so get your attention to DELETE them!
