Blank screen problem in IE

We solved this problem by changing our firewall configuration to not drop requests exceeding a maximum URL or maximum query length.

Long queries and URLs are used by attackers to spread Internet worms and Microsoft incorporated protection from this in some of their security updates, but trying to rollback the updates or figure out which one is doing what, is a nightmare.

i don't know why this is happening, but here's my way of accessing my hotmail (I hope I find the real solution soon---anyone know the solution?):
1. go to hotmail.com (make sure no one has logged on to hotmail prior to you... if so, then click on sign in with different e-mail account---don't worry, if this works for you, it'll make senses later on if you have more than one hotmail users)
2. put e-mail address and password as usual.
3. a blank page with done at the bottom will appear. now click on the Back button on your browser.
it will take you back to the sign in page. on top of this page you will see Home. click on Home.
4. A new page will appear. on the right side, you'll see Hotmail, Messenger, My MSN and Sign in. Click on Sign in.
5. a new page will appear and you'll see your name in this page. on top you'll see Hotmail. click on it.
6. now you're in and can do whatever you need to do. if someone else needs to check their mail, make sure you hit the sign out button. otherwise they will not be able to log in.

Now someone tell me how to avoid doing all of this and go straight to my mail! i tried all the suggestions here. i downloaded the patches and reset my settings. anyone??????

Lightbulb

I've had this problem with hotmail going blank for two days now, but the strange thing is that Outlook and FireFox works perfectely... so I guess that it should be a problem with IE config.

After a while in google i found these steps, and it kind of worked... i have to make more tests, but at first glance it will have the job done.

http://www.alegsa.com.ar/Visitas/i33...%20problem.php

"Open IE, click TOOLS ,then
INTERNET OPTIONS, then click the ADVANCED tab, scroll to
the Security section, and verify that "Check for server
certificate revocation" is UNCHECKED(if it's CHECKED then
UNCHECK IT). Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL
3.0' are CHECKED(if there UNCHECKED then CHECK them) then
click OK.

Click Start, Run, and type the following:

regsvr32 softpub.dll

(don't forget the "SPACE" between regsvr32 and softpub.dll)

now try hotmail"

I am also having a problem with signing on to email in IE. I have Windows ME and IE5.5 along with Norton Antivirus and Spy Sweeper. I have a question regarding downloads. Do I need to disable my Antivirus and Spy Sweeper before doing any downloads....Windows Updates?

You can email me at clyons@analogic.com

blank hotmail page

I had the same problem and tried everything in the forums that I could try, finally disabled everything java and applied, then went back into internet options, security and clicked on Default button. Viola.....everything is working again. Don't know how it worked, but it did after trying everything else. I understand how frustrating this is and hope this helps someone.

even worse

Hello everybody
The problem I am experiencing seems even worse. My girlfriend has not been able to access her hotmail for almost a week now. Hotmail gives her a blank page too. But the strange thing is that I can! access my hotmail. I have tried it on two computers. One using XP Pro and one using Win98 SE. They both use the same ADSL modem. Both systems react the same
I’ve tried the System 5.6 patch, dr TCP settings, the Java website makes no sense to me as to what I should download there so maybe someone has a hint for me there. I’ve also tried minimizing or closing all the security settings, cookies, closing firewalls and the antivirus scanner etc. nothing seems to work.
Also on other computers (at a friends house) the same problem occurs. Is there anyway to contact MS Hotmail or to check out the status of an email account?

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Kevin

hotmail messed up

I realtion to the above post, it came out that there has been an error at the srever of Hotmail itself. after a few more days trying the white page was replaced with a meassag that appoligised for the inconvenience and that the problem would soon be solved.
I don't know if this was a spontaniuous action to solve the problem or that it came because i had sent an e-mail to the Passport help desk.
Anyway, we are back on-line with a lot of unread mail. i'll get to them now.

bye
