Re: Mubashar you are a god, thank you!!!

Hi guys,

I had the same problem on a PC of one of my friends.
XP Pro SP1 - IE6 SP1.

The PC was flooded with viruses, spyware, adware & malware. (Norton Anti-Virus could not start)
Got rid of all that, and repaired Norton, but the one thing I could not solve was the hotmail sign-in problem.

I googled around and found this interesting thread, tried all suggested sollutions but to no avail.
The one thing I could not try was "Allow Meta Refresh" which seems to have helped some guys out.
Problem here was that the security levels on my internet zone was blocked (greyed out) so I could not acces that.

This remark by Mark was most helpful for me.

Attention Mubashar / any interested Microsoft programmers.
An interesting sidebar is I only had the hotmail problem on my wife's user account on my laptop. My login account (original master user on this laptop) has never had this problem. The only difference between the two accounts (apart from my account being the original) is that I initially increased my wife's IE6 security settings, and then subsequently relaxed them.

I created a second user account on the PC, where:
* the security zone level could be edited
* hotmail worked without problems

That means that the error is account related, and not a corrupted piece of software.

I checked the registry and exported all settings regarding IE (when logged on as the user without problems)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre nt Version\Internet Settings

Then I logged in as the problem user, and "removed" the settings: in fact I renamed "Internet Settings" to "Internet Settings old".
Then I imported the settings I had exported before, closed the registry, rebooted & problem solved: security zones could be edited again + hotmail was available. I didin't have to change anything else after editing the registry.

REMARK TO ALL: I created a backup before messing with the registry. Those who would want to try this out, are strongly advised to make a backup too!!

I hope this could be helpful.

Regards,
Gert.

Cool Script 5.6 download was the answer to hotmail page

After going through the recommended fixes a second time, the script 5.6 download worked the second time. The Lord (or at least MS products) works in mysterious ways. Thanks to all for the tips.

Maybe the problem is on Hotmail's side. Maybe one of their servers is messed up. I've tried login into a diff hotmail account and it worked. Maybe it's hotmail's fault and not windows.

Pages downloading & opening but appear blank

My problem was fixed when I reinstalled Internet Explorer. They said I had the most recent components but I reinstalled anyway, now Hotmail, the Windows Update page and all other pages appear fine. I am using Windows 98.

Here's the deal:

I am working from a brand new machine. No viruses, no trojans, nothing. I cannot access Yahoo mail half of the time (same as most of you).

The page is there, but comes up blank. Hitting refresh multiple times causes the page to finally display, but this can become extremely irritating when sending an email. The "email sent" screen comes up blank, requiring a refresh (often multiple times) meaning the recipient well get the same email - once for each time you hit refresh.

My meta refresh is enables, I downloaded the infamous patch - NOTHING works. As lame as it sounds, I cannot download Netscape on my work PC (it's my browser of choice, actually).

So from what I'm reading, nothing works for this?

Angry Hotmail - cannot log into 1 pc but has no problem with other pc

I have similar problem with my GM's pc. It started a month ago that he can't get access to his hotmail but has no probelm in other pc. I and my friends have no problem logging into his pc. I have changed IP address, format his pc and still no solution. Email to Hotmail but no reply. Felt very sick and tired. Any solution.

I mentioned the scripting update available from Microsoft waaaay back on page one of this thread, but I neglected to mention the version for XP/2000. For reference, here's the links to both:

Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, and Windows NT 4.0

Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP

This has been known to fix several errors on Hotmail, Yahoo, and other script heavy sites.
