Microsoft Problem!
The previous user who posted that Netscape works in Hotmail,... he's right! I found that its ONLY Internet Explorer that's having problems. Netscape and Mozilla both work just fine, but when I try to use IE immediately before or after one of the others to get into my Hotmail account, it denies me entry!
WHY has Microsoft not done something by now to fix their own programs' compatibilities?! Ah, well... for those of you who still have the problem, just switch browsers until MS gets it together. ![]() |

OK friends.. here is what I found.
I clicked a link that dumped 12 viruses on my computer.. after running 4 or 5 different clean programs I was able to kill the viruses, but the only thing that still was a problem was logging into any of my online email accounts. I could log into my hotmail through outlook just fine but not through the passport login page. I could not log into my gmail account. I tried all the different solutions here on this page but to no avail. What finally worked for me was to go to AddRemove programs and click remove IE6.. which gives you the option of repair or remove. I did the repair. All is working now. I hope this helps. It appears the malicious virus affects https pages.. and possibly recording your username and password. Be cautious on what you log into until you get this repaired. Even after all of my virus cleans there were still several .TMP files in my /temp folder.. I deleted those as well. I think these were the actual code files for the program because when I deleted them..my IE went haywire and popped up a couple different web pages... just food for thought =) took 4 hours to solve this pain in the ***. |

Ok I have it everyone.
In IE go to tools internet options, then click security and then click custom level. after this scroll down until you see meta refresh. Make sure this is enabled. And VIOLA... I think a virus or spyware wouldnt touch this setting but maybe a new windows update might or maybe adaware or spybot because it is to make sure there are no redirections. Which could be used to a spyware/virus advantage not disadvantage. Give Me Feedback if it works for yall. |

Ok. I've seen multiple entries on this site where people are not getting fixed by any of the solutions.
I've tried all of the solutions, including the one AMJones suggested about the Windows Script. DIdn't work. Nothing worked. Under Safe mode with Networking, Administrator could access the hotmail login fine. And under Owner (the other user that couldn't access hotmail), it STILL couldn't access hotmail. If you view the source at the blank page, it should show something like <meta type="REFRESH" content="0, http://websitehere.com"> If you copy and paste the http://websitehere.com portion of the meta-refresh tag, it would go. Meta refresh WAS however enabled. I tried setting all security to very low including cookies, etc. Emptying temps and temp internet manually by Content.IE5 folder, but nothing worked. Finally I re-installed IE6. http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_r...e_and_oe_6.htm Following method 2 on that page, I set the registry value in safe mode to 0 and rebooted and whenever normal mode appears it asks to remove all personal settings (I chose yes). I believe the personal settings are what keeps it from refreshing. But after that I reinstalled IE6 through web setup and now all is well. Hope this information helps .--tq |

To anyone expiriencing this problem residing in the East and using Velocitus/Rica/RMC (etc) as your ISP ...
Similar to everyone else, I can't get to any M$ sites excpet the initial msn homepage - I cannot get to any site that references "login.passport.net" , mail.yahoo.com and several others. (This includes not getting to the Script 5.6 dl page...) I am using WinXP Home - SP2. Troubles began 09.29.04 at some point I believe. Meta-Refresh is enabled, and I have succesfully gone to pages that make use of it. MTU is not part of the problem, as I am on dial-up, not broadband. After 4 or so days on tech support with my ISP — They have declared this a router problem, and presumably have someone working on it. Hope this helps someone. |

"If that doesn't help... you may be having troubles getting to secure sites.
Try visiting https://secure.theideaweb.com/ and see if the page comes up, as a test." Can you please tell me more about this? I'm having the same hotmail problem (blank white page) and I could not get onto the site above. Do you know what the problem is? Thanks. |

I fixed it!
I had tried all of the above plus deleting/ editing multiple registry/directory entries all to no avail. I was able to login to hotmail via another profiles on the PC and also as a workaround I was able to login via the MSN home page and after inputting password and being presented with the blank page type www.hotmail.com into the browser and it would take me straight in. The above workarounds did not satisfy me however (I'm an IT guy). Any how I read something unrelated mentioning how Hotmail had been ported to be more reliant on Java so I went to Suns web site and downloaded the latest version and after reboot to my great surprise I am able to log right in! This may work for those of you who have tried everything above without success. post here if it does as I still want to know the "root cause" (could be java code, could be something java reset in the install, etc.)

I just left it alone for a while and today it works normally again. No blank page. I guess it was a messed up cookie or something that msn finally fixed or something.

Hi Everyone,
I had the same list of problems: 1) Hotmail page coming blank 2) Search tool missing I use XP pro. For fixing this, go to windows site and 1) search for "script 5.6" 2) choose from the list depending on your OS This did the trick for me. Reading others' problems and knowing what happened here, I am quite sure that uninstalling Norton Systemworks from my computer brought this problem. I hope this helps. Thanks & Good Luck!!! |
