Hotmail log-in page comes-up blank!

Hotmail log-in page blank with "done" tag at bottom left. I've emptied the internet temp files and set security settings at default. I've even tried logging-on at .NET passport. The page stills comes-up blank! Could it be missing JavaScript? If so, where could I replace what's needed? I'm desparate. HELP!!!

Try deleteing your temporary internet files...

The easiest way is launch IE - then click Tools > Options > General > Delete Files.

If that doesn't help... you may be having troubles getting to secure sites.
Try visiting https://secure.theideaweb.com/ and see if the page comes up, as a test.

Question

I've tried the first two suggestions to no avail. I was able to to access the "secure" link you provided.
Thanks for your suggestions anyway

Interesting. Try giving one of these fixes a shot (both in ie):

Tools > Options > Advanced > Restore Defaults

And

Tools > Options > Security > Default Level > Set to Medium

....

Last but not least, check your "HOSTS" file to see if it contains any extraneous lines blocking websites. To do this, use the search in windows to search for HOSTS, then double click the file and choose to open it in Notepad. The only thing it should contain (beyond the explanation) for most home users is:

localhost 127.0.0.1

If it contains more than that, I'd remove the lines.. that may be preventing you from getting where you need.

Blank log-in page

Tried the first of your most recent suggestion. It did't work. Also, the "search" function comes-up with tools bars and the words "Search Companion" under the bars,, but nothing else. Folder options under tools doesn'fix it.
Weird!

Hm. Not sure off the top of my head how to fix the 'search' bit, but if you tell me what version of Windows you are running, I can let you know where to find the HOSTS file without searching..

You can find the HOSTs file in:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

That's based on Windows XP Pro, but it should be in the same place on WinXP Home.

You may have to turn off hidden files to find this; that can be done by (in Windows Explorer) clicking Tools > Options > View > select "Show hidden files and folders" > OK.

I fixed it....

Well actually, I got rid of it. I tried everything posted on almost every web site...to no avail. So I went with my tried and true solution: dumped my last know good GHOST image down onto my machine.

I'm fairly certain the problem stemmed from a poorly installed Java update I recieved from Microsoft, but can't prove that. After dumping my image back onto my PC, I updated my virus and firewall software, as well as any critical Windows updates, and everyting works fine now.

I have no idea what happend, but I am thrilled that I bought a copy of GHOST. See Norton's website for info.

I'm having the same problem

Hi.. hope someone can help.

1. Search companion on XP is not working.. I cannot search for files etc....
2. hotmail login page is blank
3. windowsupdate.microsoft.com is blank v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com load up but doesn't run
4. help and support on xp does not work... therefore can't system restore (is there an easier way)

I just cleaned all the spyware.... adware.... hijacks and the winshow.a virus from the computer.
I know some people have had the same issues. If you have, please let me know how you were able to solve them.

Thanks,
Ron

Ron,

It's possible that VB scripting support has been corrupted in your copy of windows. Try this page for a download to correct the problem.

After installing the download, restart your computer and see if it corrects the problems. Stop back here and let us know.. it'll help out others as well.

Hope this helps!

Talking VB Script install

AM Jones,

You are a god! I was in exactly the same situation as Ron and a Google search led me to this page. I followed your advice and downloaded the patch. It works wonderfully. I can now reach all my Hotmail email once more.

Please don't stop posting your most helpful advice. It has been greatly appreciated in this instance.
