Hotmail Error on Page
I'm having the same issue with my daughters PC, can't figure out how to correct. Only her hotmail address has the problem. 'g_state.bgColor' is null or not an object
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. |

I think I've got it...
Hey everyone, I think I have a fix for this...
If you have McAfee Antivirus on your computer, GET RID OF IT. My Hotmail started acting up right after I installed it, and I heard that it can interfere with Java-related programs and websites. After deleting McAfee, Hotmail worked like a charm again. Just go into your C: drive through my computer and delete its file. That's all it took for me. Hope this helps! |

Exact same problem. I fixed it by deleting my temporary internet files. First I used the tool bar and internet options and deleted the temp files. Then I went to mycomputer, programs folder, then windows folder, then temp internet files folder. I delete the contents of this folder. Apparantly my computer tries to use the temp file copy of my hotmail page when I get the error. That page version apparantly does not work w. the new version of hotmail. The next time I logged into hotmail I apparantly got an updated page version placed in my temp file and all works great now. BTW hotmail support never responded with help after I gave them the details noted in your post. A friend suggested this fix. Good Luck. Greg |

Figured it out, In hotmail, under new message, under tools, her rich text was selected on, I tried to turn it off but couldn't. I logged into her email account from my PC, went to rich text, selected it off, went back to her PC logged back in, the text was off and I could send email, reply and forward. This is resolved, but now I don't know why she can't have the rich text option on, on her computer. If I check it on, I get error on page on bottom, the tool bar does not show up and I can't turn it off once on. I had to go back to my computer to turn it off, but for now, one less thing to drive me nuts, thanks for everyones' help, if anyone knows the rich text answer, I'll be troubleshooting that, probably for the next two months
Thanks Dan |

If it is a simple setting like the rich text, then it makes sense that purging the temporary internet files might fix it. The rich text features might be referencing a function in a JavaScript file that isn't IN the cached version; but because of the strange way IE does caching it's not requesting the updated file from HotMail.
Has anyone else been able to fix this simply by emptying their temporary internet files? |

I am having this very same problem. Your advice (to go to another computer) worked, except now when I go to a new message, it will say in the status bar "Opening page..." and never finish loading the signature and such. Has anyone figured out another way to fix this problem?

This works ~ !!
I had a same problem. Go to Tools->Internet Options..-> and look for buttons named 'Delete Cookies' and 'Delete Files' under 'Temporary internet files' frame, I think old Hotmail javascript cahces are causes of this problem Delete all offline contents will help this. |

I tried that and it didn't work. But just the other day I noticed it started working fine again. So I don't know what the problem was. I tried all that deleting stuff, so if anyone else is having the problem just try that and then wait a while I guess... |

Pls go to Tools->Internet Options->General Tab->Setings->View Objects Here you would find ActiveX controls..please delete the ones starting with { or some numbers except those downloaded for yr programs.Restart IE and then see if you can use hotmail or not. ALL THE BEST!! |

Well I tried logging in to hotmail and turning off rich text but with no luck. Next, I tried going to tools, internet options, temporary internet files, and deleted cookies and files, then logged out of messenger and logged back in and this seems to be the answer. Thanks for the help.

I had an "error on page" using IE 6 SP1, and could not read my hotmal e-mail messages on one particular machine. In another (same brand, and setup) I was able to manipulate my messages as needed. I tried all the suggestions in this forum, and searched around for an answer from MS with not result. However, today I installed Netscape 7.1, and I am now able to do everything I couldn't before! It even saved all my Favorites entries from IE onto Netscape! I realize it may not be ideal, but it works!
Good Luck. PCP |
