Question AIM profile hosting

i know there are multiple sites that offer profile hosting so you can have pages for your profile and basically unlimited content, but is there any program or way you can host your own sub-profile from your own computer?

I own a web domain for my bands webpage, but I have figured out a way to create and host my own sub profile through my band's domain. If you know any HTML, It makes the process much easier, but there are ways you can copy AIM's basic html code for the standard AIM profile for your added on pages as well. Email me at .(For privacy reasons, we cannot allow unregistered Guests to post e-mail addresses. What you need first

Sorry I forgot to add this, although it's kind of obvious... To host your own subprofile, you'll need a small amount of webspace somewhere that allows remote linkage, I would use geocities for this space... http://geocities.yahoo.com/ or any other one that will allow you to link remotely. again my email is bertz@spyris.com and AIM name SpyriS Guitar

Ah heck I'll do it now

OK! HERE GOES ATTEMPT #2 I'll do it in steps to make it easier to follow.

Pre-requirements:
*You must have web space somewhere that you can upload files and link them.
*You must have Notepad, Wordpad, or the equivalent for othe operating systems where you can create text files and save them as htm or html files. Front Page Express, or Adope Page Mill can be used for part of this, but I haven't found way around using Notepad or Wordpad for one of the steps you'll need to do.
*You should have some idea on how to make a webpage with links and so on. So now that you have these things let's go:
1. You need to have done something with an AIM profile for the screen name that you want to link to your sub profile, so if you've haven't made an AIM profile yet, quickly do this ***MAKE SURE IT IS A SHORT PROFILE, YOU NEED A LOT OF SPACE FOR THE LINK*** so that AIM will create the file info.htm which you will edit later. So if you've done this go ahead and find that file...for me the file was located at C:\windows\aim95\"screen name"\info.htm (this is Windows 98) so if it is not there, do a seach on your hard drive for info.htm and then in your results, find the file info.htm that is located in a folder which is title as your screen name.(I believe Windows XP puts in somewhere under my documents)
2. You now need to create a page there's a few possible ways to do this and a few requirements...
-For people who do not understand html, this entire process will be more challenging, but I suggest you copy info.htm (edit copy) and then paste it in a folder you'll remember it. Once you paste it rename it to (something).htm ...Now open it in Front Page Express or whatever program you know how to use. I take it you've seen a subprofile, so what you can do is sort of model yours after it with links and all, just do not make further sub profile pages yet or links for them. (Read the Restrictions below before starting)
-For advanced and html knowing people, you can do the same and copy paste and rename or you can create your own webpage but it must be an .htm or .html , I believe, in order for it to work.
*RESTRICTIONS*
*you cannot have pictures or background images because they will not be opened by AIM so choose a solid backround color
*and like I said, do not try to make more sub profile pages just yet, which means do not try to link them
*when you are all done, make sure your file is saved as a .htm or .html file.
*I suggest you do not try to add fine details, it's better to make sure you can get it to work before you make a masterpiece only to find it doesn't work.
3. When you are done with the main page of your subprofile you get into some tricky hyper linking stuff. But first you need to upload your new subprofile file onto your webspace. Make sure you have the exact URL to this file, and it doesn't hurt to have the http:// at the beginning.
4. Now the tricky linking stuff..I have only been able to do it with Notepad or Wordpad (Start)Programs\Accessories ... So go ahead and open whichever one you wish, I suggest Notepad and for those without windows, you should know your text modifying programs which allow you to save .htm and .html files. Now open the file which is your profile, remember? the one called info.htm ..the original one. You should have a file that has only text starting with <html> (thats "html" between these <> if it doesn't show up)
I'm going to do number 5 in a new reply to make sure it works right..... SO LOOK DOWN

Step 5

I've heard you do not want to be on AIM while doing the step below because people trying to view your profile may screw up an attempt to save, so just log off now if you are on.

5. So now you are looking at your AIM profile with a bunch of extra symbols and code and stuff. So find the stuff you typed and you will put the following link somewhere logical but not after the last few things that say </font> </body> </html> You may even want to add a sentence that says "I made my own subprofile" right before this link, now here is the what the link will be: <A HREF="http://your URL goes here" TARGET="_self">Click here for my subprofile</A> make sure you have your your URL between quotes. Once you do this, do File Save and not Save As unless you are going to save it over the file info.htm which is pointless anyway. Now log on, look up your info, and see if works!!
DO NOT EVER EDIT THE HYPER LINK YOU JUST MADE WHILE EDITING YOUR AIM PROFILE, IT'S SPECIAL AND WILL BE DISABLED BY DOING SO

This was one of my greatest self accomplishments for webstuff, and I wasn't going to tell anyone, so feel lucky if you get this to work that you had such a nice willing guy like me to help you.. Questions? email bertz@spyris.com or IM SpyriS Guitar

The link may not appear correctly above, so if this is the case just email me if you want the correct one...I'm tired now but I'll reply again to explain how to add extra subprofile pages...TOMORROW!

Ok, how do you exactly make your own webserver for everytime you log on to AIM? I mean make your own comp (static IP) into your own little server? That would be a great help!

If you dont know html you can do this with dreamweaver and it can be explained a lot more simply than previously explained ( and is not all that big of a deal, "This was one of my greatest self accomplishments for webstuff" ). While your logged of aim open up your info.htm, located in C:\Windows\Aim95\"screenname"\info.htm, in dreamweaver. post a link to whatever you want your subprofile site to be (no pics) and change the target to self.

blah on you

Yeah, you can use dream weaver, or front page, or any of those... I'm just html boy... it's really not that hard I was just making a silly big deal out of it because no one else has their own that I know. Hey though, if you're going to rip on my discoveries... I'll rip on your English... Notice in that last sentence I used 'you're' to mean you are and 'your' speaking of the grammar you use? And notice how you said something like while your logged of.... yes that's confused....thanks!! Just messin though!!

He's right, that's where it is........I think XP defaults your folders to hide system files and so on so you may need to find the option to show hidden/system files and that should be it
